2023 PASTEL SOCIETY OF SOUTH CAROLINA MEMBERS SHOW PROSPECTUS

ENTRY - All PSSC members in good standing and who have paid dues in full (Dues run from January 1 – December 31) are eligible to participate. Dues may be paid online on the Pastel Society of South Carolina website prior to or by check at drop-off. Each member will be allowed two (2) entries. If additional paintings are needed, a “call for entries” will be made. There will be a 30” (including the frame) size limitation. Works must be in soft pastel, no oil pastels accepted. All artworks should be priced to sell. A basket will be available for the artist’s prints. A limit of six (6) prints per member will be allowed. Prints must be professionally wrapped and include the artist’s information and price.

ENTRY FEES - Fees will be $35.00 for the first two (2) paintings and $10.00 for any additional paintings. Six (6) prints per member will be accepted for a $10.00 entry fee. Fees will be paid at Drop-off by check made out to the Pastel Society of South Carolina.

PUBLICITY IMAGES - Six (6) high resolution images of artwork (which will be used in the exhibition) will be needed for a digital postcard, flyers and publicity. The first six (6) images received will be used. Submit images to Sarah Kuhnell seak44.art@icloud.com by Thursday, May 18.

SUBMISSION OF ARTWORKS - Members must submit the artist’s name, title of artwork, price, size and contact information via email to Barbara Kohn at emilee48@yahoo.com by Friday, May 26, 2023. The Prospectus and Entry Form will be emailed to all members, and it will be available to download on the Pastel Society of South Carolina website. Bring your entry form to Drop Off and attach the labels to the back of the painting in the upper right corner. Entry number will be assigned on arrival.

DROP-OFF – Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Circular Congregational Church in Lance Hall, 150 Meeting Street, Charleston, S.C. NOTE: A designated drive thru “quick drop off” point located behind the Synovus Bank will be available for delivery of artwork. There will be members there to help collect the works, but cars must not linger. Also, there is parking available in the Cumberland Street Parking Garage, the Queen Street Parking Garage and limited street parking on Meeting Street which is free on Sunday.

AWARD - People’s Choice Award

RECEPTION AND AWARD - A reception will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Lance Hall from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The People’s Choice Award will be announced at the reception.

PICK UP – Saturday, June 17, 2023, after the closing reception. If you cannot pick up your paintings, please arrange for someone to do so. Storage is not available and all artworks must be removed.

ARTWORK SALES - All sales will be accepted via Venmo, PayPal or cash. If sales tax applies to your sale, you should include the tax amount in your final price. PSSC members/sitters will not be responsible for collecting the sales tax. The Circular Church does not receive a commission from the sale of the artwork.

RULES - All artwork is to remain on display until the end of the show unless it is sold. When a painting is sold, the artist may replace it within 24 hours, or a working volunteer may add a painting in its place. Neither PSSC nor the venue are liable for any damage to or theft of artwork. Only visual fine arts in the form of paintings and drawings are acceptable for PSSC exhibitions or shows. Decorative, computer generated, or any other electronically assisted works are not acceptable. Original artwork only. All artworks should have quality framing, ready to hang and no “sawtooth hangers.”

All paintings done in a school, online demos, “follow along” or YouTube videos, online courses, school-monitored studio, workshops, under instruction supervision or copied from published photographs or photographs made by someone else other than the artist or painted over mechanical reproduction are ineligible and will be rejected.

All subjects and styles are eligible, from traditional to contemporary. Artwork must be predominantly 80% soft pastel. Exhibitors must have full copyright to any piece submitted.

The PSSC Board of Directors, exhibition chairperson (s), committee members and gallery staff will have the right to reject any work deemed inappropriate or in violation of any rule at any time.
By exhibiting in this show, you accept any and all damage to or loss of your work. Neither the PSSC nor the venue offer any form of liability coverage for your work.
Note: Any violation of the prospectus/exhibition rules/guidelines will result in the removal of the artwork from the exhibition, loss of any award, ribbon and awarded Signature Points (if applicable), entry fees and suspension from entering the next two judged exhibitions/shows. The Exhibition Committee is empowered to accept or reject pieces. Any subsequent challenge will go to the PSSC Board for a final decision.
